Tramont Buys Compo

14 June 2019

Tramont Manufacturing, Milwaukee, Wis., a manufacturer of components for the standby power generation industry, announced it has acquired Compo Steel Products, also in Milwaukee. Tramont said the acquisition increases its  production capacity and expands its reach into new markets, including railroads, mining, and alternative energy. Compo is continuing operations as a division of Tramont Manufacturing under the Motive Energy name.

Tramont is a manufacturer of UL-Listed diesel fuel tanks, enclosures, trailer tanks and walkways for generator manufacturers, their distributors, contractors and others. Tramont products are used in standby and prime power installations, including hospitals, telecommunications sites, military installations and large public facilities.

Motive Energy’s product line includes electrical enclosures for multiple applications. While best known for creating precision components for passenger and freight locomotives, the company also serves the above and below ground mining equipment, alternative energy, utilities, military, and infrastructure industries.

“Our business continues to grow,” said Tramont Chief Executive Officer Nand Kumar. “The new facility helps us meet increasing demand for Tramont products. At the same time, Motive Energy provides an opportunity for us to apply our skills, knowledge and resources as we reach out into new markets.”

As part of the acquisition, Tramont has taken ownership of the former Compo manufacturing plant, located less than a mile from Tramont’s current facility. The building is situated on a large site that offers ample space for planned future expansion. Over the next few months Tramont said it will begin transferring production to the new facility, which offers increased floor and vertical space, greater crane capacity and fabrication machinery,.

Tramont Manufacturing currently employs about 150 people. Motive Energy employs approximately 20.
