Westport Fuel Systems is now Aetherion
15 October 2026
Westport Fuel Systems, a developer and manufacturer of fuel delivery tech in engines using ‘alternative’ fuels (CNG/LNG, LPG, hydrogen, etc.) has undergone a rebranding to become Aetherion Technologies.
In the related release, the company stated that the new identity ‘builds on the fundamental concepts on which Professor Philip Hill co-founded Westport in 1995’.
The name Aetherion comes from two Greek roots: aither, the clean air of the upper sky; and ion, meaning motion or energy. Together, these reflect the cleaner energy goal that was made possible when Hill introduced his first HPDI (high-pressure direct injection) system.
Aetherion’s portfolio includes Cespira, a joint venture with the Volvo Group in which Aetherion holds a 55% stake. HPDI fuel systems produced by Cespira now feature in more than 12,000 trucks around the world.
The company is further planning to introduce CNG and renewable natural gas/bio LNG (RNG) storage systems. These were demonstrated at ACT Expo earlier this year.
Cespira is said to be progressing towards profitability after reporting revenues of $27.1 million in the second quarter of 2026.
Primary drivers for new solutions from Aetherion will continue to be delivery of tech which supports cost-effective new-fuel systems for long-haul trucks.
“Aetherion represents both our origin and our future,” said Dan Sceli, CEO.
“Fleets and OEMs need technologies that preserve the performance they’re accustomed to, at a lower cost, while helping them meet increasingly complex regulatory and climate objectives. Our new identity underscores the mission that guides our work: delivering proven, scalable systems that make cleaner transportation achievable today and sustainable for the long term.”
