The engines have bore and stroke dimensions of 490 x 600 mm and a power output of 1300 kW per cylinder. The 6-, 7-, 8-, 9- and 10-cylinder inline engines deliver ratings from 7.8 to 12 ME, while the 12V and 14V units have outputs of 15.6 to 18.2 MW, all at 600 rpm.

Available for orders now, the engines can operate on marine diesel oil (MDO), marine gasoil (MGO), biodiesel blends up to B40 and heavy fuel oil (HFO). This engine platform will also be the platform for future fuels such as liquefied natural gas (LNG), methanol and ammonia, MAN Energy Solutions said. Diesel versions of the engines are available for order now, with methanol-ready and LNG-ready platforms are scheduled to be available in 2023.

Most of the key components are sourced in-house, the company said. This includes the turbochargers, next-generation common rail fuel system, upgraded ACC 2.0 combustion control, next-generation MAN SaCoS 5000 combustion control, and MAN selective catalytic reduction (SCR) aftertreatment. Advantages over the predecessor 51/60DF engines include a 13% boost in power output and a 4% improvement specific fuel consumption, the company said.

The first engines are scheduled to be delivered at the beginning of 2024, with the initial ship installation in 2025.
