Renault Trucks is to hold the world premiere of its T High model at the IAA Transportation trade fair, to be held at the Deutsch Messe in Hanover, Germany from 15-20 September.
This will be one of the first vehicles to feature the all-new DE13 R diesel engine.
The DE13 R is a 13-liter inline six-cylinder turbodiesel which in top spec will have a maximum output of 397 kW (540 hp). Peak torque is 2,800 Nm at 900 rpm.
The high-efficiency turbo, together with high-pressure cylinder mechanics which can achieve up to 250 bar (approx. 3,600 psi), help to improve emissions performance. A high-pressure fuel pump can optimize injection events to reduce energy losses.
To further reduce overall emissions the engine is HVO and B100 biodiesel compatible.
In total, the new engine is said to return a 4% reduction in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.
Renault is reported to have used high-strength grey cast iron and compacted graphite iron across the DE13 R to maintain internal pressures and extend the working lifetime of the engine.
According to Renault, the engine complies with the NNR3 noise emission standards, which makes the unit ‘significantly quieter’ than the preceding model.
Other features of the DE13 R include a standard engine brake, branded OptiBrake+. This helps to control the vehicle when travelling downhill and in other more difficult driving situations. This is complemented by the Optivision predictive cruise control system which uses real-time mapping to adjust vehicle speed and gear selection.
Further features are the OptiDriver gearbox. With new software, the ‘box delivers a 20% speed improvement in gear shifts. There is also a predictive engine stop/start feature which, among other actions, can shut down the engine when freewheeling, while keeping the steering and electronics fully operational.
