Rizon, the new electric vehicle brand from Daimler Truck in North America, has completed its first customer delivery.

The handover of the e18L model, fitted with a dump truck bed, was made to Villamar Construction in Victoria, British Columbia. The unit will be used on customer home-build projects.

“This handover marks a significant step for Daimler Truck in bringing zero-emission commercial vehicles to Canadian businesses,” said Andreas Deuschle, the global head of Rizon Truck.

Commercial EVs are no longer a future concept – they’re here, hitting the road and serving in communities across Canada. We congratulate Villamar Construction on leading the charge and look forward to seeing Rizon trucks drive the growth of zero-emission transportation nationwide.”

Rizon noted that an additional 18 units fitted with various body types, ranging from dry boxes to service bodies, will be delivered ‘in the coming weeks’.

There are currently four Class 4/5 medium-duty model variants on offer: the e16L, e16M, e18L and e18M. Each is configurable to suit the use cycle. GVW ranges from 15,995 to 18,850 lb (7,255 to 8,550 kg).

M variants with two battery packs have a single-charge range of about 177 km. L variants use three battery packs and have a single-charge range of 257 km. Range is calculated with a 50% payload.

Two recharging methods are offered, CCS1 DC fast charging and Level 2 AC charging (J1772).

To help improve performance in cold weather, the trucks have an electric preconditioning function that brings battery packs to the correct operating temperature.

All have an electric power takeoff feature which can be controlled from the cab. This can operate bed sides on reefer models and hydraulic pumps.

These vehicles will qualify for the Canadian government’s Incentives for Medium- and Heavy-Duty-Zero-Vehicles (iMHZEV) program, which has been in effect since 2022. Under the program, a Rizon truck will qualify for approximately $75,000 at the point of sale.

Rizon trucks may qualify for additional provincial incentives of up to $75,000 in British Columbia.

Rizon now has dealers in BC, Ontario and Quebec. The company is working on plans to extend this reach.
