ZF invests in logistics center, new machinery at German HQ

ZF announced the start of construction for a new logistics center at its headquarters in Friedrichshafen, Germany, which it said is aimed at optimizing material flow and improving site efficiency for its industrial division. The 32,000-sq.-ft. facility will utilize automation and digitalization to modernize logistics, improve product lead times, reduce operational costs and improve processes in order to effectively meet market demands for the company’s commercial vehicle and industrial technology.

Upgrades are also being made to the production machinery and measuring room to support the growing industrial division business, which includes marine transmissions and aftermarket components. Twelve new production machines are expected to come online by summer of 2025.
The new logistics center and equipment, which represent a €36.8 million investment by ZF, will supply Plant 1 of the Friedrichshafen site. A core component is the new automated small parts warehouse, which enables the entire facility to be run by up to 40 employees. ZF said the facility’s modern technology will allow for a substantial increase in efficiency and reduce storage costs by more than €1 million euros per year. The center is also expected to improve lead times for the company’s industrial division technologies, including its marine and special driveline components.
“With the logistics center, we can optimize the flow of materials and factory logistics; it makes us more efficient and flexible,” said Peter Laier, ZF board member responsible for commercial vehicle and industrial technology. “Therefore, it is not only financially but also strategically a clear commitment to the Friedrichshafen location and the excellent skills of its employees.”
A groundbreaking ceremony marked the start of the project, which will be completed by the end of 2025 and operational by spring of 2026.
