New cab, controls for Bomag recycler/stabilizer
16 October 2026
The Bomag RS 650-2 recycler/stabilizer is designed for soil stabilization and asphalt reclamation on a range of projects, including landfill construction, new developments, oil field pads, large industrial construction, parking lots, highways and airports.
The new model has a 61,509-lb. operating weight and is powered by a 653-hp (480-kW) Deutz TCD 16.0 L, eight-cylinder, Tier 4 Final engine that enables it to deliver maximum cutting depths of 23.6 in. using a 94.5-in. wide by 55.9-in. diameter rotor with 170 cutting teeth. The proprietary FLEXMIX design incorporates front and rear gates as well as a third adjustable gate that keeps material engaged with the rotor longer to offer better material gradation and compaction.
The hydrostatic rotor drive provides continuously variable rotor speeds from 104 to 140 rpm to minimize tool and rotor wear and meet site conditions. The hydrostatic overload protection system automatically absorbs load shock when an obstruction is encountered to prevent damage to the gearbox.
An articulated frame enables a tight steering radius that offers enhanced maneuverability in tight spaces. The steerable rear axle enables four different steering modes to aid in working close to structures and oscillates up to 15˚ for improved traction. Combined with 4x4 all-wheel drive with anti-slip control (ASC), these drive design advantages help the RS 650-2 complete difficult stabilization projects.
The new cab design cuts operating noise levels inside the cab and improves comfort with an adjustable air suspension seat. The operator’s station (seat, control lever and display) slides the full width of the cab and rotates 45˚ in either direction to give direct sightline to the machine’s sides. The entire cab rises to a working position for optimal visibility around the machine and lowers to 122 in. (3,100 mm) to simplify transport.
The control center has been upgraded from analogue to the same 7-in. (178-mm) full-color touchscreen monitor found on the RS 460 for continuity of operation between machines. The touchscreen offers quick navigation through operating panels, allowing the operator to control rotor depth and speed, gate positioning, emulsion and water injection rates and quick diagnostics of machine issues.
The standard enhanced camera system features two camera views to the left and right of the machine as well as two for monitoring the working area to the front and rear for 360˚ coverage. Two additional fore/aft cameras mounted on the rotor housing allow operators to see rotor gate positioning as well as material gradation. Two 10-in. (254-mm) monitors – one for the 360˚ camera system and one for rotor feed – display video feed to the operator.
“These are significant upgrades to the RS 650-2 design to improve operator comfort and productivity,” says Randy King, recycler/stabilizer business development manager for Bomag. “The new controls offer simple, intuitive machine operation, and our new camera system improves visibility on a machine that already offered great visibility.”
