Power Briefing recap, week of July 21

At this point, your “on vacation” out-of-office message may be feeling a bit neglected thanks to everything happening in the industry. Here’s a quick catch-up on what you may have missed this week in Power Briefing:

  • Diesel still plays a role in today’s world thanks to cleaner tech. As such, columnist Oliver Dixon sees fleets shifting from an “all-or-nothing” net-zero approach to something more pragmatic that balances environmental goals with business needs.
  • Electrification, hybrids and AI are rewriting the rules for propulsion testing. ACS’s Chris Arnold says modern labs must be modular, flexible and fast — or risk becoming obsolete.
  • A massive prebuy ahead of 2027 EPA on-highway emissions rules seemed certain until shifting politics and market realities cooled expectations. Columnist Jack Roberts says even those once bullish on the prebuy are rethinking their forecasts.
  • Despite policy headwinds, electrification continues gaining traction. ACT Expo revealed real-world deployment of key tech, documented in Power Progress’ Electrification Yearbook. Five trends are shaping the industry’s next chapter.

In other news, Massey Ferguson has added the 8S Xtra series tractors, Cummins has promoted four leaders to VP roles and Yanmar Compact Equipment has entered the U.S. compact track loader segment.
