Power Briefing recap: week of Dec. 9
13 December 2024
While we hope you had an opportunity to follow Power Briefing this week, there’s a chance you didn’t, given the end-of-year flurry of activity. In any case, here’s what you might have missed:
- Hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEV) are undoubtedly innovative. But they struggle to keep up with battery-electric (BE) vehicles in the marketplace. A Mission Hydrogen webinar addressed why by discussing advances in battery technology.
- They say necessity is the mother of invention. Such was the case when John Deere teamed up with potato harvesting equipment maker Spudnik to address a challenge the latter was facing. And they were awarded for their efforts at the Power Progress Summit.
- Hydrogen remains a fuel of interest in Canadian transit. But the latest ZEB (zero-emission bus) Database report from the Canadian Urban Transit Research & Innovation Consortium (CUTRIC) shows that BE buses are still dominant among zero-emission transit solutions in the country.
- India is not well known for its contributions to emissions reductions. But its tougher CPCB IV+ emissions mandate for power generation has made it possible for one Indian engine and gen-set manufacturer to introduce its products to North America.
In other news, Deutz has acquired a 50 percent stake in HJS Emission Technology, Ireland’s Wrightbus is launching a new StreetDeck Ultroliner double-decker model and Power Progress looks at UFI Filters’ expanded range of products for heavy-duty vehicles.
