Power Briefing recap: week of Jan. 27
31 January 2025
Welcome to the last day of January. As February kicks off, here’s what you might have missed this week in Power Briefing:
- As the industry navigates evolving U.S. policies, advanced internal combustion (IC) engine technology could see renewed focus. Allen Schaeffer of the Engine Technology Forum emphasized that continued investment in these engines is crucial for progress in fuel efficiency and emissions reduction.
- January saw a wave of leadership changes across many industry players. These transitions continue a trend from December 2024, with companies positioning themselves for the challenges ahead.
- With California canceling its Advanced Clean Fleets waiver request, battery-electric (BE) truck manufacturers face uncertainty. The changing regulatory landscape could have consequences for companies like Nikola, which already appears at risk of bankruptcy.
- Roland Berger analysts predict a more moderate commercial electric vehicle marketplace moving forward. In a recent webinar, they noted that while electrification remains a priority, industry-wide challenges have tempered expectations following years of rapid investment and growth.
In other news, Allison Transmission has introduced the 6625 WBD, the Port of Long Beach (Calif.) is set to deploy InductEV’s wireless charging systems and the British Standards Institution (BSI) has released new guidelines for heavy-duty truck charging stations.
