Isuzu delivers first customer NRR EV trucks to Red Bull
07 January 2025
Isuzu has introduced its first battery-electric truck, the NRR EV. The Class 5 model has a gross vehicle weight of 19,500 lb (8,845 kg).
The NRR EV is available with ‘a number’ of 20 kW battery packs – this essentially translates to the customer choosing how many packs is required for duty application. The model can carry between three and nine battery packs (dependent on wheelbase, up to a maximum 176 inches/2,971 mm), with a maximum capacity of 180 kW.
Battery packs support DC charging (CCS1) and AC charging (J1772). Fitted with 180 kW, DC recharging time is between 1.0 and 2.5 hours. AC recharging is from 5.5 to 10 hours.
This power is delivered to a three-phase 150 kw (200 hp) electric motor which delivers up to 380 lb foot of torque.
The cab of the new NRR EV is more aerodynamic, helping to achieve greater range and driver comfort. New bumper designs help to cool the onboard battery packs.
Assembled at the Isuzu plant in Charlotte, Michigan, the NRR EV is offered with a choice of bodystyles including box and dump beds.
The first trucks have been delivered to Red Bull North America. The vehicles will be used to deliver the energy drinks around California. Fitted with 100 kW of battery storage, the trucks are said to offer a range of about 100 miles (160 km) with a full load.
